Neglected Blog, Neglected Body

Okay. So it has been some months since I've updatedthis blog. And I don't even remember the last good workout I had. Consequently, I have porked up quite a bit over the past few months. At least I have a somewhat legitimate excuse. I got pregnant (via IVF) back in January. Unfortunately, I had a miscarriage. So now I'm left with a nice new layer of fat. I have never weighed this much in my life. It is time to get back on track. We will probably start another IVF cycle in June, so I have 8 weeks to lose about 20lbs. I want to do this through a combination of detoxing, diet modification and exercise. Specific plan to follow shortly....

Lazy Days of Summer

My workout has been derailed all week. But today I will run. Dietwise, I'm up and down. No caffeine so far this week, no red meat, no pork! But a bit more dairy than I should be eating (in the form of ice cream. yum.)

Getting back in the groove

Yesterday I ran a really slow 5k around the house. I ran despite the migraine that I've had since Saturday. It didn't feel great, but it wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be. Today I feel much better than I have in a minute. At lunch today I plan to go to yoga and go for another run after work. I really want to get back to a place where exercise feels good. I want to be able to comfortably work out when I get pregnant.

My diet was just okay yesterday. I had yogurt and fruit for breakfast, a turkey sandwich for lunch (Jimmy Johns) and a sensible dinner of roasted chicken, rosemary red potatoes and steamed broccoli. I snacked on some almonds during the day and a little bit of cheese before dinner. No ice cream, but I did have two of those mini snickers during the day. Last night I ran into my neighbor at the end of my run. She had a large container of frosted sugar cookies. Mmmmm, they looked DELICIOUS, but I resisted. Yay for me! No huge derailment on my first day.

I have to get back on track

Tomorrow I will start my exercise plan. I will run. I will resist the medium peppermint mochas and the ensuing caffeine buzz. No more peanutt butter/chocolate ice cream. More salads. Veggies. No pork. No red meat.

To Run....or not

I've been away for a while. I had surgery back in June. My workouts have been sporadic at best. And part of me wonders if I should get back into running while we are ttc.

Happy Holiday Weekend

I had a nice run last night around my neighborhood. I ran from my house to 111th and Longwood and back (about 4 miles I think). I struggled through the first mile or so, but the run back was smooth sailing.I feel pretty confident that I could post a respectable time in the Ridge Run if were going to do it. Unfortunately, I already agreed to walk with my friend M.

Today I plan to go to a yoga class at lunch time. I haven't been to yoga in about 3 months, so this should be interesting.

On the nutrition front, I think I did okay this week. I indulged my sweet tooth a couple of times, but no major catastrophes. Yesterday for lunch I had a really yummy salad from Nordstom's Cafe (mixed greens, grilled shrimp and a cilantro lime vinaigrette). But then I had a seven layer bar for dessert. Dinner--a small portion of linguini with puttanesca (sp?) sauce and a small piece of sauteed halibut. (yum yum!)Oh, I forgot...I had pizza on Tuesday. ugh.

A holiday weekend is always a challenge on the food front. I'll probably fire up the grill tomorrow and maybe again on Monday. We are going to my mom's on Sunday, where there is sure to be a feast--ribs, chicken, potato salad, baked beans, corn on the cob, the works. Hopefully, I can stay focused and not overindulge.

I need some motivation!!!

I did an hour of cardio (treadmill and the cross trainer) and a few strength machines on Monday. I skipped yesterday because I had to go to the eye doctor and grocery shopping. Today I should go to yoga at lunch and run after work. But I really just want to take a nap under my desk. Logically I know that I will feel better if I exercise. At the very least I will run this afternoon.

On the nutrition front, this past weekend was a big setback. Pizza, banquet food, movie popcorn, candy, champagne....bad, bad, BAD! It really could not be avoided. We were out all day Saturday--shopping, movie, birthday party--and Sunday was my uncle's retirement party. It would not have been so bad if I could have squeezed a workout in. Oh well. I'll do better this week since I have groceries. I even brought my lunch today.
